20th Anniversary of NY8 + Message

mp3, 2.67 MBs, 3:20

[Col. Recorded 10/9/04]

Ona Move! Congratulations to the N.Y. 8+ on their 20th Anniversary! Congratulations on continuing to struggle for liberation and against racist and political repression.

To look out on the American political landscape today, is like looking into a mirror of the past.

Years ago, during the 1960s, radicals and revolutionaries warned of the 'fascism' of the Nixon Regime and the repressive actions of the nefarious J. Edgar Hoover, head *capo* of the FBI.

The late Black Panther Party Minister of Information, Eldridge Cleaver, used to say that when fascism comes to America, it won't wear the swastika armband, or dress in the flared riding trousers of the Nazi S.S.; He said fascism in the U.S. would be 'yankee doodle fascism,' waving red, white and blue flags, and boasts of patriotism.

In the '60s and '70s, we talked about fascism, but some of this was hyperbole; political speech meant to provoke and engage, and to warn of the trends that were possible under what was called the Nixon/[John] Mitchell/Hoover Regime. Yet, if pressed, I wonder if we could've really defined the term, beyond brutal police repression.

How many people know what fascism *is*? It's the merger of state and corporate power — like what happened in Italy under Benito Mussolini; or in Nazi Germany under Adolph Hitler — and if we really look at our disastrous present — at this mad war for corporate wealth in Iraq, for example — what do we have?

The merger of state and corporate power.

Years ago, Dr. Huey P. Newton called California a "military state" that should properly
be called "California-Lockheed", for the influential defense corporation. Perhaps if
Huey were alive today, he would be referring to the "United States of Halliburton", for the merger of state and corporate power isn't a theory today — it is a reality.

Marx said the state is little more than an executive committee of capital — in other
words government is a mere employee of those with great wealth. The state is the
form; capital is the essence.

We live in an age of the PATRIOT ACT, so-called to camouflage the war against
American's alleged 'civil rights.'

What is the PATRIOT ACT? It is the codification of everything that was done
decades ago during the COINTELPRO era, but now it's legal. Relentless infiltrations,
taped phone calls; snitches, and frame-ups (the N.Y. 8+ *knows* all about this!).

The state serves the interests of the well-to-do; yet wages war against the poor.

As I told Lateefah, fascism ain't creeping; it's running! It's rampaging. It's in secret laws; secret courts; and the repressive status quo.

And it's to be fought, in the words of Malcolm, 'by any means necessary!'

Ona Move! Long Live the Resistance!
